Elegant shades graced table and floor lamps as well as crystal chandeliers imported from Europe. And the electric light bulb enabled fine work to be sewn at night usually under a parlor bridge lamp. Today the tradition of hand-sewn lamp shades continues and here are tips and sewing techniques from the experts. When buying or recovering a lamp shade today, keep the design of the lamp base in mind. Curved shades compliment curved lamps and angular shades normally work best with angular lamps. Shade frames are available for lamp bases with harps, bridge lamps, floor lamps with glass bowls, chandeliers, headboards, night-lights and more.
Most floor lamps come as a combination of a separate lamp base and lamp shade. Choose your lamp shade very carefully, and if possible, try to look at it in daylight before buying it to see how good or bad it looks. Your floor lamp will act like any other show piece in your room during day time, so it is imperative that it looks good in daylight also while it is not in use. Needless to say, choose a lamp shade that complements the colors of your room.
Repairing Damage: Remove the plug of your plug in hanging lamp once in a while and assess the socket if the wires and connections are good. The continuity of the cord should be flawless. Apply duct tape as needed and non-corrosive grease on all junctions, terminals and plugs to prevent corrosions.
